Journalism: Not just for smart people anymore

Posted: December 24, 2011 in Uncategorized

Any idiot can write an opinion piece these days, in fact I’m writing one right now. Somewhere along the line it was decided that a lack of wit and intelligence should not necessarily preclude people from publishing their thoughts. I blame the internet for this. First, without the internet your computer would just sit there looking stupid, like an oversized paper weight on your desk. If you did actually turn the boring lifeless thing on and jot down a few ideas, who the fuck would read it anyways. Second, without the internet, where would most people come up with thoughts in the first place. Lets face it, the web really is just a giant read-along story book. If people weren’t watching the latest Bieber video, or surfing porn, or browsing the latest stupid people tricks on YouTube, they most likely wouldn’t have bothered learning to read in the first place.

OMG how can she fit that whole thing in here mouth. Oh, sorry, I got distracted. Now where was I, oh ya, journalism.  Having successfully deciphered the archaic symbols on their computer screens, people are now under the mistaken assumption that they’re intelligent. Even though yesterday they wouldn’t have known Yasser Arafat from Yom Kippur, all of a sudden they are experts on middle east tensions. When a month ago they wouldn’t have known an LSE from a BSE, they now feel at ease discussing both international finance and mad cow disease. It may not seem that scary at first glance, but what happens when these same people decide to start voting or heaven forbid, running for office. Wait a second. Oh no, it’s started already. How else could one explain Michele Bachmann or the Tea Party?  Oh the irony that the conservative movement has been rekindled by progressive sciencey/technology type stuffs.

What is he doing to that go….Um, anyway. Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow must be rolling in their graves (they’re both dead I hope, I’ll google it later). I know what you’re thinking, people are entitled to their opinions, and I suppose yes, yes they are. The problem is that now many of these same people are starting to publish these opinions. Innocent people just trying to download that illegal copy Boob Wars 3, are accidentally stumbling upon  these blogs and saying “You know what, damned straight”. These same people who have until now gone through life without thinking, are now wrongly thinking that they know how to think. This will surely lead to the destruction of mankind. Oh the humanity.

But that’s just my opinion.

Your fool
